You’re Not Tired—You’re Just Prioritizing the Wrong Things

I used to think burnout meant I was working too hard. The truth? I was spending my time on things that didn’t actually matter to me.

A person sits on a wooden floor surrounded by floating photos, touching their face. A large clock shows nearly midnight in a dim room.

Why It Matters

Great leaders don’t just manage time—they protect it.

• If you’re constantly drained, it’s not a workload problem—it’s a priority problem.

• True leadership isn’t about doing everything; it’s about focusing on the right things and setting the tone for your team.

• Tools like the Pareto Principle and Eisenhower Matrix help cut through the noise so you can lead with clarity and impact.

What Changed for Me

I stopped being busy and started being intentional:

1. Top 3 Priorities: Each day, I set three must-do tasks and time-block them. Scroll down to see my inspiration for my time-blocking.

2. Saying No More Often: If it doesn’t align with my bigger vision, it doesn’t get my time.

3. Embracing Pauses: I used to think productivity meant constant motion, but stepping back creates space for strategy and creativity (watch the TED Talk, “Boredom to Brilliance”).

The Leadership Test: Are You in Control of Your Time?

When I stick to my system, I feel in control, clear-headed, and effective—like I’m actually leading my life and work. When I don’t? The day owns me instead of the other way around.

This isn’t a race. Pause. Step back. Ask yourself, Why am I doing this? If you can’t answer that, it’s not a priority.

Ask Yourself This

“When you look back at how you spent your time last week, what patterns do you notice? In what ways did your choices align with what truly matters to you, and where did you feel pulled by obligations rather than intention?”

Take Action

This week, pick three things that truly matter—professionally or personally—and time-block them on your calendar. Protect them like a meeting with your most important client (My inspiration: Dr. Newport and Dr. Huberman's 10 min talk about time blocking)

Bottom Line: Leadership isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters most.
